Figure Skating
Figure Skating is Hard!
I've recently been watching the Winter Olympics and came across a performance during the figure skating competitions that was just too good not to write about.
The name of the skating duo was South Korea’s Yura Min and Alexander Gamelin. The pair skated to the well-known song, “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. I thought this was really unique because this is the first time in the Olympics where the International Skating Union has modified its rules allowing figure skaters to perform to music with lyrics.
I really enjoyed their song selection, but also thoroughly enjoyed their performance as well. Their performance was well executed with great choreography and the ability to stay in sync. Their ability to gracefully move across the ice while looking effortless is something only a few can accomplish. Although Yura suffered a wardrobe malfunction she overcame it with poise and finished a great routine.
Below is a link where you can watch a few snippets of their performance and appreciate how awesome figure skating is!
Hi Arianna,
ReplyDeleteI haven't been keeping up with the Olympics as much as I would have liked to, so I had no idea that skaters are now able to perform to music with lyrics. I'd imagine that it would be very difficult especially with the choice of a fast song like "Despacito." I'll be sure to watch South Korea's performance. Thanks for sharing.
Im in awe when I see professional figure skaters doing their thing. The professionalism that they carry and their concentration is something that I find admirable. It makes me think about the amount of time and dedication that they put into their practices to be as good as they are. It amazes me how flawless they can be, how naturally they can pull off each part of their choreography, and how there's a story behind each part of their routine.
